Since the first coffee house opened in Paris in 1672, people have taken extreme pleasure in the tradition of coffee. I remember when I was visiting the area of La Rochelle and was at Vieux Port, the harbor located in the heart of town. Street café's, both big and small, spilled over the pavement with all the tables and chairs facing the street activity. Piping hot, freshly ground coffee is being served to people reading over the daily newspaper, lovers whispering to one another, and students gathered to discuss world and local events.
The French cafés function as meeting places for the artists, poets and writers to display their work while sipping the strong French Roast they were served in the custom tiny coffee cups.
